Begining rib riveting

October 21st, 2008

Riveted the main ribs to the front HS spar.  Sorry, forgot the picture.

Riveted the middle rib tip (HS-707) to the left skin.  It was very easy.  I set the rivet gun to so soft it wouldn’t drive the rivet and then opened the valve two turns.  Three would probably have been better, but I wasn’t in any hurry and didn’t want to chance denting the skin.

It’s a little hard to tell what this is, but it is the skin wrapped around the center rib tip.

That’s enough!  Going to bed.

Spar reinforcement

Riveted on the rear spar reinforcement and brackets

Riveting the front spar together

To give an idea of how much work this is, it took me over 6 hours today.  I’m tired, I’m calling it quits!

Primed Skins

Primed the insides of the skins.  Should cut down on any corrosion.  One of the few down sides of living near the ocean.

Washing some skin

Washed, etched and alodined the HS skins

First Rivet!

October 15th, 2008

Riveted the HS-411APP hinge brackets to the VA-146 hinge bearing.  Finally, some rivets!  About 48 hours of prep work before the first rivet!
